Timing, in my opinion, must be the most challenging aspect when wanting to be a great president.
It takes a very long time to install change. It takes even longer to see the results of your actions.
Being president is like steering a massive container ship. Slow moving vessel that slow to change direction.
At the moment, if I were president, I would want to implement major changes. These changes would not have an impact during my term of service. The impact would only be seen by the president that serves after me.
Taking a short commitment period into consideration is important. It’s a reminder that there is a lot to get done in the term and setting up measurable outcomes helps balance the transaction.
Objectives that I would set to steer towards:
1. Create employment opportunities.
2. Rebrand South African production and align it with quality.
3. Move away from socialist state toward capitalism. Not total capitalism (stick with mixed economy but reduce governments involvement in the business world).
4. Right the wrongs of apartheid, only if the transaction yields productive and constructive outcomes.
5. Empower the previously disadvantaged with platforms to work from.
At this point, I need to emphasize that I know I do not have all the answers. I am most probably making some mistakes I my assumptions.
The purpose of this session is not about how great I think I am, rather the purpose is that I hope to stimulate thought. Striving for solutions in this complex world we live in..
